Are you concerned about the ingredients in your makeup? You’re not alone.

Thousands of people search the internet for ‘clean beauty Australia’ every month – and at the time of writing this article, they’re presented with more than 34 million results.

With all that information swirling around, it may be hard to figure out what we should be embracing and what we should be avoiding in terms of cosmetic ingredients.

So, to help you on your journey towards choosing healthier cosmetic products, we have listed our favourite natural beauty products.

But first…

What are toxic-free cosmetics?

Let’s talk about clean and toxic-free cosmetics.

You may be surprised to hear when it comes to clean beauty, in Australia, there is no single list of chemicals that are banned in cosmetics.

Also, the terms ‘clean’ and ‘toxic free’ – or even ‘natural’ – aren’t an industry standard. They’re more unofficial (or umbrella) terms adopted by the brands that aim to develop products free of controversial or potentially harmful ingredients.

Basically, there’s no single, unified definition. But generally, when we talk about clean or toxic-free cosmetics, we’re simply referring to cosmetic products with ingredients that may be better for you – and often the earth too.

A bunch of non-toxic makeup brands have chosen to focus on ingredient integrity without sacrificing performance or negatively impacting health.  As a bonus, these products are often – but not always – ethically sourced, vegan and cruelty-free. The brands may also choose to pack and ship their products in a sustainable way.

Are you ready to get excited over these natural cosmetic products available in Australia?

Eye makeup by clean beauty brands

Looking to swap to non-toxic eye makeup? We’re so excited to show you our favourite products.

Eye Of Horus Brow Sculpting Clay Medium

Inspired by ancient Egyptian beauty rituals, this clay is perfect for sculpting bold brows. It’s smudge-proof, water-resistant and infused with Abyssinian oil to promote brow health.

Eye Of Horus Universal Brow Lash Serum

This tinted serum is infused with botanical ingredients as well as vitamins and minerals to help promote lash and brow health.

Eco Minerals Mascara Midnight

For those moments where a tinted serum isn’t quite enough, this gentle and beautiful mineral mascara is perfect. Made for sensitive eyes to promote lash health and give you that wow factor.

Face makeup that feeds your skin

Bringing a new meaning to the term natural beauty, these face lotions and potions are packed full of ingredients to promote healthier skin – rather than covering it up!

Eye Of Horus Skin Tint Serum Warm

Combining makeup and skincare, this vegan serum gives complete coverage, provides mineral sun protection and uses seven sacred oils to help plump and enrich the skin. Boosted with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, its lightweight, water-resistant formula visibly blurs imperfections and smooths skin tone.

Eco Minerals Alchemy High Light Creme

Want to instantly brighten your complexion? Of course, you do. Effortlessly enhance your eyes and cheekbones with this slightly shimmering nude/apricot colour offering a subtle and natural makeup look.

Eco Minerals Bb Cream Dark Clarkes Beach

Designed to even out skin tone and blur imperfections, this BB Cream will leave you with a slightly dewy finish while nourishing, hydrating, and protecting your skin. Simply add some mineral makeup powder over the top for a more matte aesthetic and finish with the Eco Minerals Blush.

We’re big fans of this brand, who we think makes some of the best mineral makeup in Australia.

Natural lipsticks

The jury is out as to how much lipstick the average person swallows in a lifetime. But, it is possible to ingest small amounts of lipstick. For example, you might inadvertently lick your lips while wearing lipstick.  When you look at it like that, it’s why choosing products with clean ingredients might be appealing to many people.

Luk Beautifood Lipstick Crayon - Honey Peach

This lipstick and liner in one is a high pigment, long-lasting balmy colour with silica for a soft focus effect. Made from organic coconut oil and plant waxes plus antioxidant-rich vitamin E to nourish and smooth lips without caking or drying. Every detail of this product is impressive, down to the bio-innovative package materials derived from renewable sources. Even the lid is compostable. Impressed? We also love their Luk Beautifood Lip Nourish.

Luk Beautifood Lip Nourish Chai Shimmer

This sheer and subtle shade has the enticing scent and taste of chai - like a relaxing tea break in a tube. Made with antioxidant-rich natural oils from cinnamon and vanilla, it delivers hydrating moisture that tastes as good as it looks.

Eco Minerals Lipstick Splendour

Enjoy natural beauty with a silky-smooth application, and benefit from ultra-moisturising natural properties, keeping your lips hydrated all day. Splendour is a medium to dark-toned, festival-ready dusty pink colour. You will love the burst of berry and shimmer - perfect for all complexions. Created as an ode to famed Byron Bay music festival Splendour in the Grass.

Natural nail polish

And lastly, we couldn’t forget your nails.

Hanami Nail Polish - Flame Trees

We love this revolutionary vegan nail polish formula, made from ingredients such as sugarcane, cotton, corn and cassava. It offers the perfect two-coat colour coverage, with a super impressive drying time. Breathable, water permeable and a certified vegan beauty product – did you even know all of that was possible?

Hanami Nail Polish Water Based Remover Wipes - Vanilla

There’s no point in using clean nail polish if you’re just going to wipe it off with regular remover. We love that this water-based nail polish remover is acetone and ethyl acetate free and doesn’t have that traditional nail polish odour.

Juniper Skincare Intensive Hand and Nail Cream

Use this take me anywhere hand cream as often as you like but especially after hand washing to help restore moisture and protect the hands.
